When the air conditioning gets frozen and loses most blower force after a few minutes of running, the first thing to do is shut down the unit for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. If you suddenly lose cool air from the air conditioner but it is functioning properly, you need to check the auxiliary fan. If this fan stops working, your car will overheat. If allowed to overheat, the engine will result with a high-pressure situation that can lead to compressor failure and system plumbing explosion.
When the air conditioner system lacks blower force even at the highest blower speed setting, that means the evaporator and blower fan needs a complete cleaning. You will have to remove the glove box and some dashboard parts to look for blockage. The other part to change when doing this major service maintenance is to change the expansion valve, clean or replace evaporator (if corroded), dry and completely vacuum the system. Once done, it’s important to re- oil the compressor. Failure to clean the system will lead to engine rough idling and running. You will also experience lack of power. It is wise to do this service maintenance on a regular interval according to the manufacturer’s manual or at least once a year especially if you live in a dusty, polluted area.
Finally, if the air conditioner is still giving you problems, take a look at the dirt that envelopes the evaporator. Is it a sticky film type gel? Well if your answer is in the affirmative that means you’ve been using too much car sprays or a lot of cologne. This scent end up as gel-like goo and clogs the evaporator fins.
